For Michael

Two men sitting comfortably indoors, smiling at the camera.

Midnight Blvd began as a creative experiment, but the truth is that it really began with Michael.

For as long as I’ve known him, music—especially 80s synth-pop and new wave—has been part of the rhythm of our lives together. His record collection is incredible, shelves full of albums from bands like The Spoons, Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, The Psychedelic Furs, Depeche Mode, OMD, and so many more. Each record has a story, a memory, a moment in time that still feels alive every time the needle drops.

Over the years he has taken me to so many concerts and shared countless albums with me. Sometimes it was just putting a record on and saying, “You need to hear this one.” Sometimes it was hours of music, talking about the songs, the sounds, and the artists who created them.

At first I was just listening because he loved it.
But somewhere along the way, I started to love it too.

Those songs, those bands, and those nights listening together slowly opened a whole world of music for me. They’re the reason I began wondering what it might feel like to create something that lived in that same sonic universe.

Midnight Blvd grew out of that idea — and out of the joy of sharing that music with him.

This project isn’t trying to replace the records that inspired it. Those albums are timeless. Instead, Midnight Blvd is simply my way of celebrating the sound and spirit of that music, and the person who brought it into my life.

It’s a small signal sent back through the airwaves.

A thank you for the records, the concerts, the conversations, and the music we’ve shared.

Most of all, it’s a gift for him.

For Michael — whose love of 80s synth-pop and new wave lit the first signal behind Midnight Blvd.
